Livelihoods which are productive are vital for the all-round wellbeing – social, economic and emotional wellbeing of the poor and the marginalised. It is most important that their capabilities are increased, their assets sustained and their vulnerabilities are reduced and their credit worthiness is improved. AID is working towards the livelihood security of the poor and the marginalised.

People’s choice has always been livelihood security. Bogged down by utter poverty, the majority of community forums identify with the need to get employment opportunities. However, in the quest for employment and income, they do not recognise the needs for social, educational and health empowerment.

AID recognises that holistic empowerment is essential to strive ahead socially, culturally and economically. AID sees the inter-linkages and value of other inputs like education and health in improving people’s livelihood options. In the highly competitive markets besieged by MNC’s it seems the traditional market is no match. It strives to ensure the rural communities can improve their productivity, trading and management skills and link them with banking for micro-credit loans. In this manner it is expected the communities will have control over their own produce in terms of prices and marketing. It is also working for aggregating their produce and get better market through the ICT kiosks in the region.

IT has been highly successful in enabling the SHG's to avail credit and improvise their production and market of the produce. Small seed capitals have enabled women’s groups to procure large quantities of forest produce. The forest produce is stored and then sold at competitive prices during lean seasons through forest produce co-operatives. It has improved the traditional harvesting structures and also built new harvesting structures such as aahar, check dams and irrigational wells and repaired the canals to increase the agricultural productivity.
