Poor health fuels and intensifies poverty and the poor are pushed into irreversible cycle of poverty and ill health. Delivery of health services is the fundamental responsibility of the government. Yet catalysts like AID are required to enable the poor to understand the programs and policies made for them. It provides health education and in times of emergency provides mobile clinical services as well. Its primary focus is to make referrals and ensure the poor make use of the government health facilities and demand for the same where it is in short supply.

Poor health saps the energy and life of the poor. It fuels and intensifies poverty. In large parts of Eastern India the basic health services to the poor are acutely in short supply . Unsafe delivery and abortion practices, high maternal and neo natal mortalities, mal nourishment, deaths due to diarrhoea, malaria, TB, STI, STD and HIV/AIDS and other water borne diseases saps the energy and vitality of the people and especially in the far flung tribal and dalit hamlets.

The primary responsibility of delivery of health services vests with the Government at the Central and State levels. It is important to transforming the health systems to work it for the poor. To ensure the program and policies reach the poor in unreached regions. Certain times and during the medical emergencies it becomes imperative to provide the clinical services as well. We act as a catalyst for the same.

AID has adopted health education in different forms; through awareness education, health camps, nutrition exhibitions, school and community health check ups, mobile audio-video screenings and poster presentations. AID also imparts reproductive health training for NGO’s, untrained and registered practitioners, traditional birth attendants (dais), women’s groups, community based organisations and peer educators. It also used community radio as an education and advocacy tool to reach large number of villages.
