Supporting the development of active and confident communities is central to community capacity building. Enhancing existing community skills can be a significant step in supporting communities to influence what happens in their communities, and can have wider personal and community outcomes too. It is evident that unless the community realises its own potential and organises itself, it is very difficult to address local issues.

AID attaches greater importance to the ownership and involvement of the local community in planning, implementation, reviewing and evaluation of their own programmes. It believes that the sustainability of all the projects/programmes lies in empowering the community and enabling them to take responsibility in managing their programmes by themselves. It focusses to develop skills of the community leaders to enable them to manage community programmes, increase managerial skills among people, recognition to youth power and equipping them with IT skills, enabling the youth to have wide ranging choices and opportunities for strengthening their skills.
