Financial inclusion means that everyone in society is able to access and use appropriate and affordable financial goods and services. AID has established panchayat based banking services manned and managed by person from among the community as “local banker” at 400 panchayats and enabling the marginalized poor to open their bank accounts, enable basic banking services of deposit and withdrawal and enabled them to get their accounts to be linked with “Direct benefit transfers” (DBT) – welfare benefits of the government.

Financial inclusion emphasises on “no frill” and “zero bank” accounts , yet it did not reach communities at the bottom of the pyramid. It has been proved time and again that meeting the banking needs of large small account holders by the conventional banking is beyond their means and therefore, the branchless and panchayat banking through Business Correspondent (BC), provides real banking solutions addressing the practical banking and credit needs of large rural masses.

Further the greatest relief for the village communities being their due wages and benefits from government will be routed through their accounts only . AID is currently partnering with State Bank of India, Punjab National Bank, Allahabad Bank, Bank of Baroda and Vananchal Gramin Bank and providing services in 400 panchayats. So far 3 lakh accounts have been opened.
